Packaging manufacturer extends presence in Scandinavia / Acquisition of Scandiflex PacThe Austrian packaging producer is continuing a shopping spree (Photo: Schur Flexibles)Packaging films producer Schur Flexibles (Wiener Neudorf / Austria; www.schurflexibles.com) will acquire full ownership of Scandiflex Pac (Landskrona / Sweden). Scandiflex produces flexible packaging for the food industry and is regarded as a specialist for flexographic and digital printing.

The company based in southern Sweden last reported turnover of just under EUR 20m. The acquisition will increase Schur's Scandinavian presence, which includes its three subsidiaries Schur Flexibles Denmark, Schur Flexibles Finland and Danapak Flexibles. Once the transaction is completed, the Swedish company will be renamed Schur Flexibles Scandiflex.

Schur Flexibles will benefit from the company's competence in both flexo and digital printing and the production of packaging for meat, fish, dairy, dry food and coffee as well as ready-made and frozen food. The Austrian group sees useful synergies in the field of research and development and will also be able to build on Scandiflex Pac?s expertise in printed and transparent films as well as laminates.

With the acquisition, Schur Flexibles? annual sales in Scandinavia would then increase to EUR 120m. The group's total turnover was most recently EUR 520m (pro forma), generated by 1,750 employees in 15 subsidiaries.Takeover of competitor and realignment of management boardIn spring 2018, the Austrian group acquired UNI Packaging (Averdoingt / France; www.schurflexibles.fr), one of its competitors ? see Plasteurope.com of 30.04.2018. Schur Flexibles said the acquisition was aimed at strengthening its position in the large and rapidly growing packaging market for cheese and dairy products as well as other fresh products.

In summer 2018, CEO Thorsten Kühn quit the company only a few weeks after his appointment ? see Plasteurope.com of 27.08.2018. The shareholders consequently decided to dispense with the post of CEO, and since then, a management team of three has been at the helm of the packaging group, namely COO Juan Luís Martínez Arteaga, CFO Michael Schernthaner and CSO Friedrich Humer.02.04.2019 Plasteurope.com [242156-0]
