Deals this week: DS Smith, Turkven, Scania

DS Smith has issued 10.175 million new ordinary shares priced at £5 ($6.5) a share in a rights offering to raise £50.87m ($66.74m).

The company has engaged Goldman Sachs International, JP Morgan Securities, P Morgan Cazenove, Citigroup Global Markets and Brunswick Group as book-runners for the offering.

Based in UK, DS Smith is engaged in delivering innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.

Turkven has made a bid to acquire Elif Holding through its investment vehicle Alpha Flexibles.

Based in Turkey, Turkven provides mid-market private equity, while Elif Holding is a packaging company.

Scania has engaged Smurfit Kappa to replace some of the materials used in its supply chain with paper-based packaging solutions.“Mengniu plans to upgrade its premium line of organic milk using Tetra Pak’s Tetra Prisma Aseptic 250 Edge with DreamCap packaging.”

Smurfit Kappa designed alternative packaging for truck windows during transportation that replaced expanded polystyrene (EPS) and wooden pallets with paper honeycomb.

The switch from multiple materials to a single material solution is expected to save storage space by 50% and reduce transportation costs for Scania.

Based in Sweden, Scania is engaged in providing transport services, while Smurfit Kappa is an Ireland-based company engaged in the manufacturing of paper-based packaging products.

Royal DSM plans to recycle multi-layer food packaging films using APK’s Newcycling process.

The partnership is expected to enable both the companies to increase the sustainable benefits of multi-layer films by manufacturing recyclable products and minimise food waste.

The solution is also expected to increase the shelf-life of packaged food.

Based in the Netherlands, Royal DSM is an international company focused on the health, nutrition and materials industries, while APK is a Germany-based company engaged in the treatment of packaging waste.
